Character Information

Name: Uzumaki Naruto
Canon: You betcha!
Journal: [personal profile] heroscomeback
Gender: Male
Age: 15
Birthday: October 10th
Canon History: http://naruto.wikia.com/wiki/Naruto_Uzumaki
Canon Abilities/Powers: A veritable battery of chakra thanks to the Nine-Tailed Beast sealed within him (and the ever-loved ramen that gives him even more fuel) Naruto's favored techniques are the multi-shadow clone technique (a forbidden jutsu, by the way!) and the rasengan, which he developed following Jiraya's guidance, a jutsu that was originally created by his very own father.
He achieved sage mode after training with the toads, gaining the ability to perceive evil intent and sense chakra. As time progressed and danger increased in the ninja war, he had the opportunity of further gaining power once he fused with Kurama, making usage of upgraded rasengan techniques and still more clones, able to spread Kurama's chakra across a whole army.

Sunshineverse History: Naruto's young childhood was essentially spent with good manners being taught to, if not drilled into, him. There were important guests around on quite a few occasions, so political awkwardness had to be avoided whenever possible. Once his father handed the Hokage title to Obito after Naruto hit his teen years, things became slightly more relaxed.

Even before his mother created her own village and started spending more time away, he was taught the history of the dwindling Uzumaki clan and why he had that name and not his father's. Because of this, he understands the importance of the village within the bigger picture, as well as his own role being one of the rare heirs. Mostly. He doesn't quite realize the duties that go along with spreading the name unfortunately, even though he once walked in on his parents doing the deed when he was young and got the talk. In other words, it may not have stayed with him as that kind of impression.

He does understand what a jinchuuriki is, and over time has grasped the implications of it. Growing up as the Hokage and a host's son, of course, he inquired more as he got older when he could, having noticed his mother's abilities and far from oblivious to how she was different. Since knowledge is they key to understanding people, and in order to have an idea of the jinchuurikis' situation should he ever come across another, he did his level best to try to get an idea of what it was like in spite of his mother's status being a secret.

Once he started the academy, he met Hinata and ended up spending more time with Sasuke. One of those being the direct heiress of the Hyuuga, and the other... what may unfortunately be described as fodder. Only knowing the other boy from a young age kept him from ever saying as much though, and instead quickly realized that fodder or not, Sasuke was still incredibly good at whatever he did, and he would have had a competition on his hands if he'd wanted to actually get the top rank in his classes. He still recalls the time he found out that people called Sasuke his 'girlfriend' for no apparent reason. Starting on that day, he did something not quite politically correct and placed loosely tied, slightly inflated balloon that he had painted the same color as the benches they sat on upon each of the offenders' places. He did that every time he heard about the incident until they checked twice before getting seated. He certainly did miss the reactions when they stopped getting caught in his trap. He also never did get in trouble for that, wise enough to not spread that he was the one to have done such a thing. His father would have most likely disapproved.

Once he made it to genin, he had Hinata and Sasuke assigned to his team. It was a somewhat uncomfortable sensation for him, being with two dojutsu users, even if one didn't have his active yet, and it took some time to realize that it was to his advantage. It was a shock when their sensei turned out to be none other than his father's own student and his childhood babysitter, back when he'd still needed one. There was no end to the humiliating stories he could tell about the man, such as making a game at bath time: escaping Obito before he got caught by that towel to be dried.

As the roles were more and more defined within the team, Naruto became more of a leader, coming to be apt at quickly taking into account his teammates' abilities and weaknesses when making up battle strategies. It was what allowed the team to get through the first stage of the Chunin exams in Suna at all. The end of the exam and promotion also called for a celebration upon which Obito might have found out Naruto to be a loud drunk with no sense of personal space at all. His sensei most likely prays that Kushina never finds out how that evening went, and it's part of why he wasn't dragged along when his teammates had their own 'celebration' upon Hinata's promotion.

This was not to say that there were not a few mishaps in their first missions before this promotion had a chance to happen. On two separate occasions, he found himself held at an enemy's mercy. His teammates, thankfully, were not content to simply watch, successfully saving him from where he really did not wish to be, but that didn't mean that the experiences didn't stick with him well into the future. He vowed to himself to never be a liability to his teammates again. Realizing he was the first choice for kidnappings and like-minded plots made him more aware that as much as he wanted to believe, not everything could be solved with diplomatic speeches. Most times, the captors would got tired of said speeches and ended them. This had the effect of making him also take conscience that if he could read into what an enemy truly wished for, they could be manipulated to a certain point.

Being promoted to Chunin heightened his sense of responsibility and opened up new possibilities. He could have aimed to be Hokage. It might even have been a natural way to think, but he did not. Instead, he aims for the next echelon, believing he probably can make Jounin, but also not closing any other doors that may be open to him, such as teaching in the academy.

For about three years of his life, before his mother moved to Uzushio, she had brought with her another Uzumaki, a child introduced to him as his cousin, Karin. He was, by this time, well-behaved enough to leave her space if she needed, but welcoming enough that he would not ignore her if she opened up. He did get the concept that his home was also her home, and tried not to step on any toes because women are scary when angry. When she left, he had gotten used to her semi-constant presence here. As a result he felt a little lonely, but he adapted quickly to the place being emptier and quieter.

Sunshineverse Abilities/Powers:
Politics: With the Fourth Hokage as his father, and a prominent Uzumaki as his mother, Naruto ended up being prodded toward the role of a future politician as a side-job. An open mind that he had already possessed was further nurtured and only grew thanks to trips to the other villages. He's also an excellent manipulator when it comes to peoples' emotions on the battlefield and political arena.

Seals: He has received extensive training on manipulation, and even creation of seals. His one major creation thus far in this field is a seal which acts as a lock upon any document, or even object, and can be attuned to one or multiple users' chakra to act as a key. Once attuned, the lock requires the chakra of all the attuned members to be opened.

Weapons:: His sensei took up where his father and mother left off. Naruto was already skilled enough with the basic shuriken and kunai from Academy, and tacked on kenjutsu from his mother before tackling less well-known weaponry with his sensei. Naruto threw himself into learning any weapon Obito had to teach him in an effort to enlarge his repertoire, and also for any possibility to surprise an enemy with a form of fighting using a weapon they were not used to.

Ninjutsu: With Sasuke as the team's medic, Naruto and Hinata are the frontline fighters. Naruto's arsenal includes a variety of basic wind jutsu along with the rasengan. hs mother covered for what was left of the bases. His summoning contract with the toads has allowed him to form a bond with Gamabunta, his first successful summon that wasn't a tadpole. The one he could hold in his palm as a younger boy is now as tall as he is in his mid-teens. A number of small frogs can also be summoned and used as scouts or spies depending on the location. They also act as fairly good messengers in a pinch. As far as Genjutsu, great care has been taken to make the lessons to dispel it sink in and stay in. There is something to be said about having an Uchiha as sensei and another as teammate, but unfortunately, as much as he understands the way to go about genjutsu and escaping from it, he s seldom able to put it in practice.

Physical: He has the Uzumaki lifeforce and happens to be amazingly resilient, but it doesn't change the fact that his body does have a limit. He did get become excellent at avoiding being hurt though, putting much of his training into speed and avoidance instead of brute strength since his healing isn't anything special enough to warrant just plowing through. He's working up to it, and in the meantime has the habit of hassling his medic teammate to fix him.

Appearance:Whiskered cheeks, a mop of spikey sunshine hair and blue eyes? That's Naruto! Still dressed in his bright orange and black garb, sporting the Uzumaki's symbol on the back of his jacket. In addition to multiple pouches for shuriken and kunai that are carried at his hip and upon a leg, he also has a katana and chokuto that can be summoned from seals on his right wrist and left forearm.

Personality: He still doesn't give up, still tough as nails, slightly less gullible and posses that big wide-open heart. He is just as jovial but somewhat quieter about it.

His approach to problem-solving is to take things with a cool head, having experience since he was a leading young figure in diplomacy. He accompanied his parents to other countries in his youth, and learned very early to be a good role model, something he did without any rebuttal. He has never been anything but obedient and respectful to his parents and the rest of the village, with some slight exceptions, but as long as he doesn't say it aloud, it can't very well be reprimanded.

While out with his parents, the first impressions people had of the boy was that he was cold, seeming to stare silently and when speaking, using words and meanings too deep for his age. Once the strangers warm up to him and vice-versa, they discover that a book is not to be judged by its cover

Over time, he developed a rigid personality, but not to the point where he is cold and unfeeling. He knows when to loosen up and when to give people a break. His voice is most of the time quiet, but firm, never having been raised in anger, possessing the virtue of patience. The way he walks is that of a teenager that knows where he is headed, albeit with just that little joyful spring in his step. He has a saying that the goal does not matter as much as the road to it.

His goal? He has never stated it out loud, and keeps stating that people will recognize the accumulated efforts and reward him with an according position. He has rarely appeared overly ambitious or spoken of goals that he was unable to attain.

Naruto is, as of now, someone who can be depended on, knowledgeable about how his fellow shinobi and the villagers each work, willing to go through the thick and thin for the good of the village and its denizens. He knows that nothing comes without constant effort, and will put his all to ensure that Konoha's future is the brightest it can be.

There are a few downsides. One being that he tends to push harder than his limits at time. He states that to go over your own limit, you first need to reach it then go beyond. On a few occasions, this has caused his body some strain, which he ignored and caused him to end up over-exhausted and sick. On a solo mission, he has made it back to the village with a broken arm dangling, but the attention was less on the limp apendage than his beaming victorious grin as he handed the scroll that was the object of his mission. It was only thanks to his unrelenting will that he made it through, out and back home. Possessing the Uzumaki's wondrous lifeforce does not, after all, make him a superhuman, he merely heals slightly faster from the mishaps.

A few bits of a child are still scattered here and there into some of his mannerisms and expressions, but for the most part, he often looks older than his age... That is, until he sees ramen, after which everyone in the vicinity knows this is a teenager with a bottomless stomach.

Strengths and Weaknesses:
+Serious and reliable
+Patient and kind
+Hard working and determined

+/- Has a high pain threshold.

-May appear cold at first glance to those that don't know him.
-The absence of a stated goal may have him appear lax.
-Habit of ignoring his own health issues
-Weak against genjutsu

Village Affiliation: Konohagakure
Rank: Chunin

Prose sample:

Naruto gave a light sound of surprise, then a low hum, hand cupping his chin and brows furrowing in thought as he pondered his sensei's question. He had been extended the offer to assist with teaching. He had admittedly given the option a passing thought, but now that he looked into the offer deeper, he could see why it had been extended to him.

He was aware that he held a firm grip on a variety of basic knowledge taught at the academy, and had the patience and nurturing hands required to teach incoming generations if he chose to.
Being able to teach something was not a gift given to everybody, nor the ability to adapt how certain things were taught to fit different individuals should they now understand. Obito had noted he could give the position a thought.

"A position open, huh?" A pause, and a light twinge. "...I guess this means my team'll miss me, won't they?"

But then, weren't they already skilled enough to be able to adapt to anyone else? No one was irreplaceable, after all.

"I'll think about it. If you offered, then this means a lot to you. When's the deadline for my answer? I don't think I need too long though." He may have to ask Iruka and get a few pointers to help his transition. After all, there were many ways that lead to his final goal. This was only a less-traveled road.

Kind of like taking the scenic route.

Bracket sample:

[The pen was held firmly in hand, eyes frowning in barely contained annoyance as he found himself staring at the blank parchment for the umpteenth minute.] Maaaan, I hate this blank page syndrome. [He heaved a heavy sigh.]

I shouldn't have so many issues with that one, huh? [He stuck the pen under his nose, upper lip curling to hold it there. It was a pretty childish thing to do, but it's what he did.]

[Time passed until he gave groaned and snatched the pen once more, dipping it in ink with a scowl.] Tch, fine. [And he began scribbling seals upon parchment strips, grumbling.] I guess it's useless trying to make paper bomb seals look more artistic if they're gonna end up blown away...

Missive Sample:

Notice to Sasuke Uchiha.

Breakfast is fixed. You're having natto.
Your feet don't belong in my face. I don't care how small the sleeping space is.

p.s: Here's a tip, don't warm the natto with fire jutsu in an attempt to make it better. Believe me, I tried.
p.p.s.: Still your friend.
